Field Science Pirate

I’m in the middle of two weeks of intense field work, so I can’t provide you with anything intellectually stimulating.  However, since I’ve been telling the undergraduates some tales of pond creature encounters, I made you all a cartoon.  Am I missing anything?  What else do pirates have that field scientists might have?
